I want to take this opportunity to thank David Highlander Creator of Star Trek: Special Ops for the use of his character Shawn Gorman. Without him this story would not be possible. DS
Captain’s Log - Stardate 50510.1: The Missouri is on her way to Deep Space Nine. We have been called there under a code one priority message. I know Captain Sisko would not use that channel unless the situation warranted it. His message was very cryptic in that he could not give me any details of what the emergency was, only proceed here at our best speed. We are currently at Warp nine point five and holding. ETA to DS-Nine is one hour thirty-seven minutes. Tom Kern reported back to duty this morning. We rendezvoused with the USS Thunder Child just outside the sector two two one - g. He looks very happy.
Captain’s Personal Log - Stardate 50510.1: My relationship with Melora is still currently in the same holding pattern it has been in for the last three weeks. I’m completely to blame for what has happened. I let my feelings for the woman I lost eight years ago overwhelm me. If I lose Melora, it’s my own fault. While I wish she would talk this out, come in and slap me, something, I will not push her. She.......
Duncan never got a chance to complete the thought as the door chime to his ready room rang.
“Come.” Came his reply.
Melora walked through the door and stopped in front of his desk.
Duncan shut the terminal on his desk down as he looked up to see who it was. When he saw her he smiled. Maybe his wish was coming true. He stood up and came around the desk and sat on the edge. “Hi. How are you doing?”
She was still distant. “I’m fine, Duncan. How about you?”
“OK. I’ve missed you.” He said trying to coax some feeling for her mood out of her.
“Duncan, I’ll get right to the point.” She said.
Uh oh. Duncan thought to himself.
She looked at him. Inside she was trying not to start crying again. “I have some leave coming. I want to take it now. No. I need to take it now. I have to get away, before I can get my feelings straightened out. If I’m working with you everyday, I feel myself starting to lose myself in the comfortableness of our relationship. I have to make sure my feelings are true not just what is comfortable.”
Duncan looked at her. He knew how hard this had been on her. He took her hands in his. “Like I told you before. Whatever you need to do. I’ll not going push you or force this. You know how much I love you and how sorry I am. Your request for leave is approved. If you need more time than you have leave. Let me know. It’s not a problem.”
She looked into his eyes and smiled. It was the first time Duncan had seen her smile in a long time. He was glad to see it. “Thank you for understanding Duncan.” She said kissing him on the cheek. “I can catch a hop to earth from Deep Space Nine.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it. You just get packed.” He said.
“Thanks again.” She said as she walked out the door. Duncan smiled and thought Well that went better than I expected.
He walked out onto the bridge. “Captain’s on the bridge.” Kelley announced.
Duncan patted his helmsman on the shoulder as he walked past and took the center seat from Commander Costello. “Good Morning, Amanda. How are you this morning?” She had talked to Doctor Meyer and had worked through things pretty well. She still had nightmares about her ordeal with the alternate MacDermott, but only Doctor Meyer knew about those. The Doctor had given her some medication to help her sleep. The Doctor told her it would take time, but the nightmares too, would fade.
“Very well, Sir. How are you doing? She said consciously making an effort at small talk.
“Fine, Commander. Would you please open a channel to Deep Space Nine for me?”
She pressed some buttons on her console. The computer chimed in response. “Channel is open, Sir. Major Kira Nerys is standing by.
